Frequently asked questions

Where is West End Rowing Club?
We're based in Auckland, New Zealand, with three clubhouses: the main clubrooms at 26 Saunders Place, Avondale; the Mercer club shed on Mercer Ferry Road, Mercer; and the coastal rowing clubhouse at 55 West End Road, Cox's Bay.
What schools row with West End?
West End is proud to be the home of Baradene College Rowing, Mt Albert Grammar School Rowing and St Peter's College Rowing.
What levels of rowing are at West End?
Secondary school rowing for our affiliated schools; club rowing from Novice (17+) through Intermediate, Club and Senior grades, with support and training for Elite-level athletes; and a Masters squad for experienced men and women aged 27 and over.
I've never rowed before — where do I start?
The Give it a Row course — five Sundays, no experience needed. All you need is to be able to swim 50 metres unassisted and be fit enough for moderate exercise.
Can I hire the clubhouse for an event?
Yes — the Saunders Reserve clubhouse hosts weddings, conferences and dinners of up to 100 (receptions of 200), and the Cox's Bay clubhouse suits events of around 30. See venue hire or email gm@werc.co.nz.
